Regenerative Agriculture Plus

You've likely heard of the 6 Principles of Regenerative Agriculture as the following for improving soil health and function:

These are the 6 principles on how to improve soil health.

In holistic management, we believe that regenerative agriculture is agricultural practices that not only regenerate the land health (soils and plants), but also regenerate the businesses and communities that engage with that land (both economically and socially).

In a white paper published by Terra Genesis International (but no longer available online), the authors note that no single best practice will result in regenerative agriculture.

Indeed, because nature is a system, a system approach is necessary.

Holistic Management, like Permaculture, is a TOOL that helps people design their regenerative approach to land use effectively.

The 7 Principles of Regenerative Agriculture that Terra Genesis International advocates are:

✔️1. Work with wholes, not parts (ie focus on complete things, not just separate parts).

✔️2. Create designs that benefit multiple resources and involve mutual relationships (ie create designs that give and receive benefits in many different ways).

✔️3. Make decisions that consider the whole system and aim to make big changes.

✔️4. Honor the unique and important qualities of each person, farm, and location.

✔️5. Keep improving the natural processes and traditions in farming.

✔️6. Connect the farm/ranch to the larger area where it belongs and the natural environment.

✔️7. Agriculture has a big impact on the world!

These 7 principles have a larger and wider perspective improving economies, communities, cultures, the world and our larger ecosystem, earth.

The Holistic Management Framework® supports and advocates these 7 global regenerative agriculture principles.

I love this wider, more global perspective of regenerative agriculture, because ultimately, everyone on this planet needs to eat and breath and be able to pay their bills, and those of us supporting and stewarding land regeneratively (and holistically) are doing much towards these principles!

It gives me hope that we can make a better world for future generations by managing land holistically!

What are you doing to improve your agricultural community and those in relationship with agriculture❓
